Nasty Cherry release new single ‘Her Body’

Following the release of Lucky in January, Her Body is the second single taken from Nasty Cherry’s forthcoming EP titled The Movie.

The track was co-written in just one day with producer Yves Rothman and mentor Charli XCX, who put together the all-female band. Consisting of singer Gabi Bechtel, guitarist Chloe Chaidez, bassist Georgia Somray and drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson, the quartet starred in Netflix docuseries I’m With The Band: Nasty Cherry in 2019. The show tells the story of the band’s origins, following them through the process of writing and recording, rehearsal sessions and the drama that comes from living together in Los Angeles.

Nasty Cherry create an alternative pop sound tinged with rock ‘n roll aesthetic, listing The Runaways, The Donnas and Cher as musical inspirations. Soundwise, Her Body follows this formula with a snappy lo-fi beat, mellow bassline and hazy synths, tied together with layered vocals. Lyrically, it expresses the frustration of a jilted lover.

In an interview with Dork, the band said about the song “it’s spiky and cocky and a bit teasing, but also insecure, and you can dance to it. It’s emotionally very pure and honest”. Nasty Cherry have previously released two EPs called Season 1 and Season 2, and although they are yet to release a full-length album, the band have amassed over 225,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Their next EP, The Movie will feature Her Body and Lucky, along with three unreleased tracks. It’s out on 2nd April via Charli XCX’s own record label.
